Sri Lanka Cricket has a new manager
27.9.2008

Sri Lanka Cricket has appointed Nishantha Ranatunga, younger brother of the SLC chairman Arjuna Ranatunga, as the new manager of the Sri Lankan team.

Nishantha Ranatunga will manage the team when they tour Canada later this month for a four-nation Twenty20 tournament. Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Canada also will play in the tournament that will run from October 10 to 13 in Toronto.

Some changes have been made in the team selection for the tour. Sri Lanka’s spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan and left-armer Chaminda Vaas will be rested while all-rounder Farveez Maharoof will be included in the tour as he has recovered from his injury.

Selectors have also recalled all-rounders Dilhara Lokuhettige and Jeevantha Kulatunga for the short tour.

Meanwhile Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge has allowed Sri Lankan cricket players who signed up with the IPL league to play in the second season meaning that the top Sri Lankan players will not be attending the tour to England.
