Sources
close to the LTTE say that LTTE supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran's
wife Mathivathani and two of their children have fled to
South Africa using the sea route. The couple's eldest daughter
Dwaraka and the youngest son are said to have joined their
mother in the voyage. Their eldest son Charles Anthony is
said to have stayed back in the Wanni to help their father
in military operational matters.
It is also learnt that Prabhakran has resisted sending the
family to a European country as he did in 1987 during Indian
Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) operations against the LTTE.
He is said to be concerned that they may fall foul to the
authorities due to undue publicity.
In
1987 Pirabakaran sent his wife and three children to Sweden
and they remained there until the IPKF left the island.
