Lalith Dissanayake of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party is set to fill the vacancy in parliament created by the recent resignation of JVP MP Anuruddha Polgampola.

The JVP MP, accused of involvement in human smuggling was taken to task by the party leadership for violating the organization's disciplinary code and subsequently agreed to resign his seat.

Vijitha Herath, leader of the JVP's Parliamentary Group, referring to the decision said that he hopes other parties will follow suit and take action against errant members.
