Wanni liberation operation continues; 35 terrorists killed, over 35 wounded

The finalized military report on yesterday's, 1 September, battles indicates 35 fatalities and 22 casualties to the terrorists. Also, 16 others were recorded as either killed or wounded. Two soldiers laid down their lives, 3 missing in action while 21 others suffered injuries during these clashes, according to the reports.

Troops of 57 Division operating in western borders of the Mullaittivu district had several confrontations in Kontakkarankulam, south of Thunukkai, Alankulam, Terankada and Yogapuram areas. Four terrorists were killed while another suffered injuries in these confrontations. One soldier has laid his life while another two suffered injuries, the report said.

Troops of Task Force 2 operating in Vavuniya front confronted with LTTE terrorists in general area Palamoddai killing 5 LTTE terrorists and injuring 6 others. One soldier suffered injuries in while engaged with LTTE terrorists in the same area. 2 x T-56 weapons also uncovered in a search operation in Palamoddai area. Troops of 56 Division gunned down an LTTE terrorist in a separate confrontation took place in general area Navathkulam.

On the Kilinochchi southern front, troops of Task Force 1 had a fierce confrontation with LTTE terrorists in general area Nachchikuda. Troops confirmed that 16 terrorists were killed and 6 more suffered injuries. 6 x LTTE bunkers were also captured by the troops with artillery and air support. 16 soldiers suffered injuries and 3 more soldiers were unable to marry-up with the troops, the report added.

Meanwhile, troops of Army 59 division operating on the Mullaittivu eastern front had several confrontations in general area Andalkulam. 8 terrorists were killed, 7 wounded and 15 others reportedly either killed or wounded due to these clashes. 3 soldiers also suffered injuries during in these clashes.

In the Jaffna theatre of operations, one terrorist was killed and another reportedly either killed or wounded in clashes reported, the report added.
