Finalized
reports on yesterday's (Sept 28) incidents settled terrorist
deaths at 23 and casualties at 9. Also, 15 LTTE cadres were
marked as either killed or wounded. Four soldiers laid down
their lives at the battlefield while 26 others suffered
injuries.
On
the Kilinochchi battlefront, troops of 57 division continued
their offensives in the Akkarayankulam and Kokavil areas
during the day. During the clashes reported from Akkarayankulam
area, one soldier was killed and 6 others suffered injuries.
Meanwhile, during operations conducted in the north of Kokavil
area troops found two T-56 weapons, 3 LTTE dresses and 3
cyanide capsules.
In
a separate confrontation occurred in the Mankulama area
on Saturday (Sept 27) evening troops found one terror dead
body and 2 T-56 riffles.
On
the western half of the Kilinochchi front, troops of Task
force 1, confronted with a group of terrorist in the Manniyankulam
area around 9.30, last morning. Intercepted terror radio
transmissions confirmed 12 terrorists were killed and 7
others were injured in this incident. Also, 2 soldiers laid
down their lives and 11 others sustained injuries.
In
separate incidents reported from Vannerikulam and Panaikandamadu
areas during the day one soldier was killed and 4 others
suffered injuries.
Meanwhile
, Task Force 2 troops operating in the Vavuniya front had
two separate confrontations with the terrorists in the Palamodai
area last afternoon and claimed 3 terrorists were killed.
Troops also found one T-56 weapon and 2 hand grenades. In
a separate incident reported from the Kummakulam area, a
soldier suffered injuries due to an AP (anti personnel)
mine explosion during morning hours.
Troops
of 56 division maintaining the active defence on either
sides of the A-9 road on the Vavuniya forward defence, attacked
a terror bunker located in the Koliyakulam area around 6.35
AM. Ground sources confirmed one terrorist was killed in
this incident.
Also
in the Navatkulama area, troops opened fire at a group of
terrorists around 10 AM and claimed one terrorist was killed.
Meanwhile
on the Mullaittivu front, troops of 59 division had day
long clashes in the Andankulam area and claimed 5 terrorists
were killed , 4 others wounded and 15 more were either killed
or wounded. Also, a soldier suffered injuries due to terror
mortar fire during one of the incidents. Troops also removed
226 AP mines and 12 IEDs during days mine sweeping operations
in the area.
In
the Jaffna theatre of operations , a sniper deployed in
the Muhamalai area confirmed shooting down of one LTTE cadre
last evening.
Counter
terror operations are being continued.
