Troops
reached another important mile stone on their noble mission
to liberate Wanni on Sunday (Aug 31), as they entered into
the highly guarded terror bastion, Mallavi. Troops of Army
57 division, after weeks of intense battles fought with
the terrorist entered into the Mallavi town, situated on
the Mankulama- Vellankauma road, in Mullaittivu west, last
evening. According to the reports troops are engaged in
mop-up operations in the area at present and indicate that
the area will be declared liberated soon.
Meanwhile,
finalized military reports on yesterday's battles indicate
41 fatalities and 50 casualties to the terrorists. Also,
12 others were recorded as either killed or wounded. 5 soldiers
laid down their lives while 30 others suffered injuries
during these clashes, according to the reports.
On
the Vavuniya front, troops of Task Force 2 had day long
clashes in the East of Palamoddai area and claimed 18 terrorist
were killed and 21 others wounded. Troops found 5 bodies
of LTTE cadres, 3 T-56 rifles and a radio set. A solder
was killed in a clash erupted during daytime.
Further,
Army elites launched a special operation in the Konketiyawa
area yesterday, to hunt down the terror group detected by
the Civil Defence Force (CDF) on Saturday (Aug 30). Soldiers
found 10 bodies of the LTTE cadres by last evening.
On
the Kilinochchi southern front, troops of Task Force 1 continued
to battle against terrorist in the Vannerikulama area during
the day and claimed 7 terrorists were killed and 9 wounded.
Also, 3 soldiers were killed and 23 others suffered injuries.
During clearing operations, troops removed 5 booby traps,
and AP (anti personnel) mines.
Meanwhile,
troops of Army 59 division operating on the Mullaittivu
eastern front continued to dislodge terror defence in the
Mullaittivu jungle along the day. Troops claimed 15 terrorists
were killed, 13 wounded and 12 more were either killed or
wounded in the clashes occurred in the Andankulama area.
Also, one soldier was killed and 6 others were wounded.
Troops during mine sweeping operations, removed 51 AP mines
and an IED (Improvised explosive device)
In
the Jaffna theatre of operations, forward deployed troops
in Kilaly attacked a group of terrorists around 2.50 AM
and claimed one terrorist was killed and 7 others wounded.
Meanwhile, a soldier suffered injuries due to terror small
arms fire in a separate confrontation occurred in the same
area around 11.40 AM.
