An LTTE area leader known as 'Vardan' is reported to have been killed along with eight other cadres a during confrontation with the Security Forces in Jaffna last night, the Media Center for National Security said.

According to sources the clashes had taken place in Kilali and Nagarkovil areas.

Reports further confirmed that "Vardan" has been acting as the LTTE area leader of the Muhamalai area.
