Sakvithi (Universal Monarch) Ranasinghe, who carried out propaganda stating that he was born to teach and conducted 'English classes' has fled the country after swindling the people to the tune of Rs.5 billion. He has fled with all his family members.

The police have received about 4100 complaints against him and about 1500 of them have been received today.

In addition to conducting English classes he has maintained an investment company. He had publicized that an interest of Rs.4000 to 6000 would be paid to every Rs.100,000 invested in the company. As the interest was higher than in ordinary banks many have invested the money in the company. He had also carried out a business of construction of houses, buying and selling land and property. It is said he was an addicted casino player.

He telecast a publicity programme every Sunday at 3.30 p.m. on National Rupavahini. A large number of people who have invested money in his company have been agitating and have surrounded his office since today (22nd) morning. The police had to be deployed to control the agitated crowd says our reporter. Sakvithi's office is at No.8, Nawala Road, Nugegoda. Investigations are being carried out by Mirihana Police instructed by SP Nugegoda Deshabandu Tennekone.
