It
is confirmed through intercepted LTTE communication channels
that at least 36 LTTE terrorists were killed, injuring 18
others during fierce gun battles ensued between security
forces and LTTE in the Kilinochchi front yesterday, 21 September.
Troops
of 57 Division had confronted with LTTE terrorists, West
of Akkarayankulam, East of Akkarayankulam, South of Kokavil
and West of Mankulam areas through out the day (21 September),
defence sources said.
Seven
bodies of LTTE cadres killed in these confrontations were
uncovered along with few other military hardware, in subsequent
search operations conducted in these areas. One MPMG weapon,
one RPG weapon, two LMG weapons, five T-56 assault rifles,
one communication equipment and one hand grenade were also
among the items found, defence sources added.
Seven
army soldiers laid their lives for defending the motherland
while 24 others sustained injuries during these confrontations,
the reports added.
