Minister of Media and Information Anura Priyadarshana Yapa says humanitarian operations in the north are being carried out successfully.

He said the war tactics of the LTTE have now been proven unsuccessful in the face of advancing troops. The terrorists made a futile attempt to attack the army headquarters in Vavuniya recently. In a media briefing held Thursday to announce cabinet decisions, Minister Yapa pointed out that the LTTE’s attempts to disrupt the train service by placing bombs on the railway track and the recent bus bomb were also unsuccessful.

Speaking further the Minister said the civilians in Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi districts have been provided with food, medicine, and their other requirements. 30 million rupees have been allocated to provide facilities for these people.

The minister dismissed reports of certain foreign media, which say that the public has been inconvenienced due to ongoing humanitarian operations. He stressed that the security forces are conducting their operations ensuring the security of the civilians.

Meanwhile, speaking at a special media briefing in Colombo Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said the security forces are prepared to counter any type of attack of the LTTE.

The terrorists launch CS gas attack on a group of soldiers in Akkarayankulam recently. Six soldiers experienced breathing difficulties due to this attack.
