UNP
will take the initiative to build an alliance of political
parties and mass organizations to demand the government
to implement the 17th amendment to the Constitution .
General
Secretary of the UNP Tissa Aattanayake said that the UNP
Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has been authorized by the party
to hold discussions with political parties and other mass
organizations regarding the formation of the alliance.
UNP
General Secretary further added that commissions including
the police, government services, election, and judicial
commissions have been made inactive and democracy has been
weakened and threatened due to the failure to establish
the Constitutional Council proposed in the 17th amendment.
The party plans to form a broad alliance to demand to establish
the 17th Amendment in the parliament and outside the parliament
and the proposed alliance would be established very soon
