Working
committee of the Sri Lanka's main opposition United National
Party has unanimously decided to accept Ranil Wickremasinghe
as the leader of the party.
General
Secretary of the party Tissa Attanayake said that this
decision was taken at a special working committee meeting
held last evening at party’s head office.
At
this meeting, working committee of the UNP has decided
to re establish the Deputy Leadership post and the Vice
Presidency post which was cancelled in 2007.
Furthermore
seniors of the United National Party have decided to amend
some policies to strengthen the party in near future.
Soon
after losing the recent provincial council election in
North Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces, Ranil Wickremasinghe's
leadership was challenged by some high ranking members
of the party demanding him to relinquish not only the
party leadership but also the Opposition leadership without
causing further damage to the party.
