IGP Jayantha Wickremaratne says all arrangements have been made to set up police stations in many parts of the northern province including in Mannar, Mankulam and Mullaitivu. Police stations have already been set up in the eastern province.

The IGP made these remarks at the official inauguration of a ceremony to enhance public co-operation to establish an honourable police service in the year 2009.

Mr. Wickremaratne further said long years of service in bunkers with a war mentality had created a distance between the police officer and the general public.

He added that an educated police force would be created with the setting up of a police higher education academy and provision of financial aid to police officials pursuing higher studies.
