Work on the naval jetty constructed to bring coal to the Norochcholai coal-powered thermal power station from the sea will begin shortly.

Preliminary construction and civil engineering work in the main power plant of this thermal power station has already been completed.

The government decides to complete construction on the 1200 megawatt Norochcholai power station project by the year 2011.

Work is also underway on the power transmission system from Puttalam to Veyangoda.
