Government
forces are now fighting with the LTTE to capture the Kilinochchi
area. Government media spokesman Anura Priyadarshana Yapa
said troops have advanced to reach the vergers of the Kilinochchi
town.
He pointed out even though international organisations and
certain individuals have voiced concern regarding the plight
of civilians in the face of humanitarian operations, the
government is well experienced in resettling civilians and
granting relief.
The
Minister pointed out even the international community has
commended the government in this regard. Speaking at the
cabinet press briefing in Colombo on Thursday the Minister
reiterated the government's commitment to address the needs
of civilians affected by humanitarian operations.
The
Minister appreciated the assistance provided by India in
this connection. He said government attention has also been
directed regarding the killing of journalist named Radhika
in Batticaloa recently. The Minister said the police have
taken steps to arrest the individuals who shot the journalists
who is a member of TMVP.
