The
ICC today announced details of the umpire and match referee appointments
for the opening group stage of the upcoming ICC World Twenty20
in South Africa, which will take place from 11 to 24 September.
For
the group stage of the tournament, there will be three teams of
five officials overseeing proceedings across the three venues
of the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg; Kingsmead, Durban; and
Newlands in Cape Town.
Chris
Broad (Johannesburg), Mike Procter (Durban) and Ranjan Madugalle
(Cape Town), all of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees,
will lead the three Playing Control Teams during those early stages.
In
Johannesburg, Broad will be joined by Daryl Harper and Mark Benson
of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires, Nigel Llong of the
Emirates International Panel of ICC Umpires and Karl Hurter, who
will be fourth official for all group stage matches in Johannesburg.
In Durban, Procter will manage a Playing Control Team that includes
Billy Doctrove and Simon Taufel of the Emirates Elite Panel of
ICC Umpires, as well as Steve Davis and Brian Jerling of the Emirates
International Panel of ICC Umpires. Jerling will be fourth offcial
for all group stage matches taking place in Durban.
In
Cape Town, Madugalle will have with him Asad Rauf of the Emirates
Elite Panel of ICC Umpires, as well as Tony Hill and Ian Howell
of the Emirates International Panel of ICC Umpires, and Marais
Erasmus, who will be the fourth official at all group stage matches
in Cape Town.
Appointments
for the remainder of the tournament will be announced in due course.
Meanwhile,
appointments have also been made for the warm-up matches for the
ICC World Twenty20 on 8 and 9 September. These matches will take
place at Centurion, Benoni and Potchefstroom and will not carry
official Twenty20 International status.
