CH
& FC beat Police SC 12 points (1 goal, 1 try) to 6 points
(2 penalties) in the first quarter-final of the President’s
Cup match played at Longden Place yesterday. CR led 12 points
to nil half way through the game, but failed to add any points
in the second half and had to be content with a 12-6 win.
The
initial half was clearly dominated by CH & FC as they went
on to score two tries through Sajith Bandara, the fly half in
the 12 minute and Achala Perera, the winger in the 20 minute.
Bandara successfully converted his own try but failed to convert
his colleague’s.
Police
regrouped in the second half and came up with an improved performance
regularly attacking the CH defence, but their efforts lacked finishing
touch and they had to be content with the two tries.
Policeman
Harshana Wijeweera put through both the penalties.
He
squandered a golden opportunity to convert two more penalties
that came in close succession. Police also missed out on a try
that was wasted by their three quarters due to poor handling.
