overcame a deadly burst by New Zealand paceman Shane Bond on Saturday
to win a practice match by four wickets ahead of the Twenty20
world championships.
Australia,
chasing New Zealand's 182-8 in Benoni, were reduced to 15-3 by
the second over after Bond removed openers Adam Gilchrist and
Matthew Hayden in the first over.
Andrew
Symonds (70 off 57 balls) and Mike Hussey (72) steered the World
Cup champions to safety before Brett Lee signalled victory with
a six off Bond.
For
New Zealand, Ross Taylor made 53 and Craig McMillan hammered 60
off 52 balls.
In
another match in Benoni, Marlon Samuels hit a whirlwind 63 off
30 balls to fire the West Indies to a six-wicket win over Kenya.
Samuels
hit three fours and a six and Shivnarine Chanderpaul remained
unbeaten on 46 off 33 balls as the West Indies overhauled Kenya's
155-5 with 15 deliveries to spare.
At
Potchefstroom, Sri Lanka stunned South Africa by four wickets.
South
Africa, sent in to bat, managed only 161-9 with captain Graeme
Smith top scoring with 46 and Justin Kemp chipping in with 32
off 22 balls. Farveez Maharoof took 3-31.
Sanath
Jayasuriya hammered 46 off 34 balls before captain Mahela Jayawardene
made 37 not out to steer the Sri Lankans home with seven balls
to spare.
At
Centurion, Pakistani seamer Umar Gul claimed 3-11 off four overs
to lift his crisis-ridden team to a 54-run victory over Zimbabwe.
Shahid
Afridi took 3-17 as Pakistan restricted Zimbabwe to 127-8 in reply
to their own 181-6 with captain Shoaib Malik making 64 off 37
balls.
Pakistan
suffered a blow ahead of the tournament when pace spearhead Shoaib
Akhtar was sent home following a bust-up with new-ball partner
Mohammad Asif during Thursday's practice.
In
the second match at Centurion, Bangladesh chased down Scotland's
145-8 with four overs and six wickets to spare. Mohammad Nazimuddin
hit 74 off 42 balls and Aftab Ahmed made 33.
