The photographs show the furnished medical centre and work at the sewing centre at Kushil Gunasekera's Foundation of Goodness at Seenigama Sri Lanka.
The medical centre was the site at which the Australia Sri Lanka Medical Aid Team saw over 400 patients on one day in March this year and will again conduct a free health clinic on Sunday 6th January 2008 when AusLMAT make there 14th post tsunami visit to southern Sri Lanka.
The sewing centre was completed with a generous donation from Esther Hannibelsz of Melbourne. Help Sri Lanka Chairman Nihal de Run facilitated this donation. The sewing centre is now fully operational and goes a long way in assisting the local tsunami devastated population regain some of their pride and purpose in life. Blouses, skirts and other clothing is made on site and sold in a spotlessly clean shop by Pashika Krishanthi de Silva of Godagama Thelwatta.
Visitors to Sri Lanka are welcome to visit this Foundation of Goodness where the Victorian Government will shortly open the VICTORIA GARDENS HOUSING PROJECT that will provide accomodation to 85 families who were traumatised by the Asian Tsunami of December 2004.
Professor P.L. Ariyananda Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Karapitiya Hospital has said " TO EVERY DARK CLOUD THERE IS A SILVER LINING" and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) said " LIFE IS REAL! LIFE IS ERNEST! AND THE GRAVE IS NOT ITS GOAL; DUST THOU ART, TO DUST RETURNEST, WAS NOT SPOKEN OF THE SOUL".
Kushil's vision, honesty and enthusiasm is born of a compassionate soul. May we mere mortals summon enough strength and courage to keep our shoulder to the wheel. There is work yet to be done.
