COMMANDER OF THE ARMY Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka Saturday (1) met Senior Military Officers in Vavuniya at Security Forces Headquarters Wanni (SFHQ-W).

Purpose of the visit by Army Commander was to review the security situation in Wanni.

Commander SF-W Major General Jagath Jayasooriya received the Commander on his arrival and was guided to SFHQ auditorium where Army Commander met senior ground commanders in Wanni.

After listening to Commanders of Divisions, Brigades and Units in Wanni who briefed the security situation in respective areas, Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka issued further instruction to them.

Meanwhile, troops launched a humanitarian operation to liberate civilians under LTTE grip in Silavatturai area south of Mannar.
