LTTE evicted from Silavathurai in a limited operation by the Sri Lanka Forces

Sri Lanka Army in a sudden limited operation has successfully evicted Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and liberated Arippu and Silavathurai located south of Mannar district in the Northern province. Sri Lanka forces also have successfully captured a LTTE Sea Tiger base including three boats and large quantities of anti- personnel mines and detonators in the Silavathurai area. Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka instructed the armed forces to be extra careful over civilians and make sure civilians won’t get caught in the cross fire.
Sri Lanka Army Commander Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka confirmed to “Asian Tribune” that the Army has gained full control of Mannar Silavathurai and Arippu areas which were dominated earlier by the LTTE Sea Tigers.

One Sea Tiger base was destroyed and 3 boats were recovered. Fleeing Tigers are now confined to the jungle and confrontation is still on, according to the latest reports from the war front.

Lt Gen Sarath Fonseka further said that during the confrontations the Sri Lanka Army was able to kill a LTTE area intelligence leader Ravi and the political leader Selvakumar.

Army revealed that when interrupting the LTTE wireless communication, they overheard that the fleeing LTTE cadres were carrying with them more dead bodies and wounded caders.

(Courtesy Media Centre for National Security)The intention of the operation is to stop LTTE Sea Tiger activities along the Western coast, as boats are launched from Silavathurai and Arippu for unloading weapons and arms smuggling, Sri Lankan Commander said.

Mission to rescue innocent civilians

Earlier, the Sri Lankan Army launched the offensive military operation in Manner south in Silavathurai to rescue innocent civilians from the grip of ruthless terrorism on 1st of September, early morning.

Sri Lanka Army Commander accompanied with the top officers, flew to the Vavuniya Security Forces headquarters and met the Security Forces Commander Major General Jagath Jayasooriya and other senior officers about battle plans.

He instructed ground commanders about his concept, which is minimum casualties to soldiers and maximum casualty and death to LTTE terrorists and he further instructed to be extra careful over civilians and make sure civilians won’t get caught in the cross fire.

A humanitarian operation to liberate civilians under LTTE grip in Silawathurai

On 31st, elite Special Forces infiltrated the enemy territory and gave artillery targets. The Army fired 130mm from Mannar with a range of 27km and a lethal zone that affected 60 square meters. When artillery hit LTTE camps, fleeing tigers were killed by Security Forces.

On 1st morning infantry troops descended to the jungle from ropes dropped from helicopters, the move caught the terrorists by surprise. Another surprise to the LTTE was that they expected the army to attack from North Mannar to Silavathurai , therefore LTTE prepared their defensive in Mannar North, according to intelligence information Army change there strategy and tactics to enter Silavaturai The Army advanced from Manner South to West towards to Silavathurai and the LTTE didn’t expect the Army troop movement from that direction.

Jungle trained infantry troops are hunting fleeing Terrorist and confrontation are going on from time to time. The Army recovered 12 LTTE dead bodies and operation continues.
A pro-terrorist web site said the LTTE repulsed the Army offensive in Manner. A senior military officer said the Mannar Silavathurai operation is cake walk to the Army.
