Friday, 28 September 2007

18 sea tigers including a self styled LTTE leader named ‘Lieutenant Colonel Nishanthan’ were killed during a fierce battle between the Sri Lanka Navy and the LTTE Sea tigers last evening around 11 pm, the Media Center for National Security (MCNS) informs.

The battle lasted for about 4 hours in the seas off Pulmudai. Sri Lanka Navy’s Fast Attack Craft successfully foiled the LTTE attempt to evacuate cadres trapped in Peraru Kumuruppiddi jungles.

Approximately 20 LTTE boats launched from Nayaru were proceeding towards Pulmudai/Poduwakattu when the naval craft on patrol intercepted them. The naval personnel successfully engaged the enemy craft and destroyed three of them inflicting heavy damages and casualties to the enemy, MCNS further added.

According to intercepted LTTE communications 18 LTTE sea tigers have been killed and several others were wounded.

According to MCNS report one sailor was killed and another was wounded in action. “However, no naval craft received any damages in the confrontation,” it further added.
