NAVY foils LTTE attempt Friday,

sea tigers including a self styled LTTE leader named ‘Lieutenant
Colonel Nishanthan’ were killed during a fierce battle between
the Sri Lanka Navy and the LTTE Sea tigers last evening around
11 pm, the Media Center for National Security (MCNS) informs.
The
battle lasted for about 4 hours in the seas off Pulmudai. Sri
Lanka Navy’s Fast Attack Craft successfully foiled the LTTE
attempt to evacuate cadres trapped in Peraru Kumuruppiddi jungles.
Approximately
20 LTTE boats launched from Nayaru were proceeding towards Pulmudai/Poduwakattu
when the naval craft on patrol intercepted them. The naval personnel
successfully engaged the enemy craft and destroyed three of them
inflicting heavy damages and casualties to the enemy, MCNS further
added.
According
to intercepted LTTE communications 18 LTTE sea tigers have been
killed and several others were wounded. According
to MCNS report one sailor was killed and another was wounded in
action. “However, no naval craft received any damages in
the confrontation,” it further added.
