Acting
on a complaint by a woman employee of SriLankan Airlines, Katunayake
police recently arrested an engineer, also working for the airline,
for posting the woman's photograph on two websites offering contact
details of Lankan women interested in sex.
Police
said that what had been attempted was not a money-making operation.
Rather, an innocent woman had been cruelly victimized by a twisted
mind.
The
suspect had initially e-mailed the victim some nude photos before
posting her details on what an investigating officer called ``sex
websites.''
A
nude photograph of a woman similar to the victim had posted on
the website along with her actual photo believed obtained her
employer's data base.
The
victim had complained to the police after several persons looking
for sex had contacted her.
Police
feared that there may be similar unreported cases.
The
victim had been a stewardess with the national carrier before
switching jobs within the airline.
Police
said that there had been a spate of complaints regarding using
e-technology to post nude photos of Lankan women, some shot with
their consent, on various sex websites.
Once
such postings are done, it is difficult to `kill' them even if
accompanying personal details are removed, police said. Also tracking
down persons responsible for such postings is not easy, a spokesman
added.
