Navy Fast Attack Craft (FACs) and Air Force war planes successfully crushed an attempted LTTE seaborne offensive at Navy ships deployed in the Mulaithiuvu Sea this evening (September 13).

According to the defence sources, about 20 LTTE attack boats had come in two "clusters" to attack the navy vessels patrolling in the North Eastern coast around 6.30.p.m. The navy sea units engaged in the initial confrontation with the terrorists' boats whilst air force fighter jets and helicopter gun ships were swiftly flying to the location to support their comrades at sea.

Then, the air force war planes took over the foray causing heavy damages to the terrorists' boats. As the surviving LTTE boats reached their launching base on the beach, the air force destroyed the launching base also. The pilots have reported that they have seen many terrorists' boats went on flames when they bombed the LTTE sea tiger base.

Navy and air force suffered no casualties in the incident.
