Battlefield
reports on Saturday (Sept 4) indicate that multi pronged
counter terror offensive in Wanni have been continued with
more successes to Sri Lanka Army. According to the reports,
27 terrorists were killed and over 25 were injured . Also,
9 soldiers were killed and 12 others suffered injuries during
the clashes.
On
the Kilinochchi battlefront , troops of 57 division attacked
3 LTTE bunkers located in the west of Akkarayankulam area
around 2.45 PM and claimed 8 terrorists were killed and
5 others wounded. Elsewhere , snipers deployed in the forwards
area confirmed shooting down of one LTTE cadre around 8.45AM.
Troops
of Task Force 1 operating on the western half of the Kilinochchi
front attacked and captured 3 LTTE bunkers located in the
Panal Kandamadu area around 10 AM. Troops confirmed 5 terrorists
were killed and 4 others were wounded. Also, 2 soldiers
laid down their lives and another sustained injuries during
the battle.
Later
in the afternoon, troops confronted with a group of terrorist
in the same general area. Intercepted LTTE radio transmissions
confirmed 3 terrorists were killed and 7 others wounded.
Also, 4 soldiers laid down their lives .
In
a similar confrontation reported elsewhere around 7 PM,
Task Force 1 troops killed 6 terrorists and wounded 2 others.
Five soldiers suffered injuries.
Due
to the LTTE mortar and artillery fire directed at Pundiweddikulam
and Panal Kandamadu 2 soldiers were killed 5 others suffered
injuries during the day.
Meanwhile
troops engaged in mine sweeping operations removed 58 AP
mines and 4 booby traps during day's operations.
Task
Force 2 troops operating in the Vavuniya front , had two
separate confrontations in the Palamoddai area during the
day and claimed two LTTE bunkers destroyed and 6 terrorists
were either killed or wounded. Also, a soldier was killed
and another injured due an explosion of an IED (improvised
explosive device) in the evening hours.
Troops
of 56 division maintaining active defence in the north of
Vavuniya area, attacked an LTTE bunker detected in the Vedamakilam
area around 2.45 PM and confirmed 2 terrorists were killed.
Meanwhile,
troops of 59 division operating in the Mullaittivu front,
had daylong clashes in the Andankulam forest reserve. Troops
captured 2 terror bunkers with 5 military trenches and also
destroyed two other LTTE bunkers. During the other clashes
reported , troops claimed 2 terrorists were killed, 6 others
injured and 18 more were either killed or wounded. Three
soldiers also suffered injuries.
Troops
engaged in mine sweeping operations removed 204 AP mines
and 5 IEDs during the day.
Separately,
the terrorists launched a claymore attack at an Army tractor
distributing water in the Irananiilluppaikulam in the cleared
area around 6.30 PM. A soldier was killed and another suffered
injuries in the incident.
On
the Jaffna theatre a soldier suffered injuries due to an
AP mine explosion at Muhamalai last afternoon.
Counter
terror operations are being continued.
