The government alleges that with ongoing successful military operations in the north the United National Party is spreading false speculations to influence the public opinion. UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella has alleged that the government is getting undue advantages by citing the war.

The MP has also stated that the government will not be able to reach a political settlement to the national problem even if the LTTE is defeated military. At the weekly cabinet briefing Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa dismissed these allegations levelled against the government by the UNP. He said the UNP is craving only for power and it has no feeling towards the public or the country.

The party has said that Sri Lanka did not get the GSP plus tax concession as it has breached 27 international charters. The government dismissed this allegation saying that it is the UNP which is responsible for losing this tax concession. The Minister speaking on the misbehaviour of several UNP MPs at the finance ministry yesterday said the party is trying to create chaotic situation in the country when the troops have reached the final state of the war.
