Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardena says legal action
would be taken against traders obtain payments directly
or indirectly for shopping bags used for purchased consumer
items. The Consumer Affairs Authority has issued a gazette
notification to this effect. Speaking to media in Colombo
on Tuesday Minister Gunawardena said since the 17th of
this month charging for shopping bags required to carry
purchases at supermarkets has been prohibited. At the
press briefing Assistant Director to the Ministry of Health
T. Madurasinghe said all imported food items are tested
for quality.
