Wanni liberation operation continues; LTTE suffers heavy beating

LTTE terrorists suffered heavy beating as intense fighting reported yesterday, (October 25), mainly in Kilinochchi battlefront where two main operational elements, 57 Division and Task Force 1, have been deployed, the report said.

Troops of 571 Brigade carried out limited operations in general area Akkarayankulam inflicting heavy damages to the enemy. Fighting erupted when the troops advancing further towards LTTE donated areas defeating terror bunker defences.

Also, troops of 572 Brigade continued forward domination operations in east of Akkarayankulm and northeast of Akkarayankulam areas had confronted with LTTE terrorists during day hours yesterday.

Meanwhile, troops of 574 Brigade, flanking the Kilinochchi front from the east continued their thrust towards the Jaffna - Kandy road (A-9), attacked at terror gathering point observed in general area Padinadampore. Troops confirmed that LTTE suffered heavy damages as troops engaged with RPG's and Machine Guns.

Task Force 1 operating in the western half of the Kilinochchi front continued their march at opposite directions down the Mannar - Pooneryn (A-32) road during the course of the day.

Troops of 582 Brigade, heading northwards from Manniaynkulam, launched limited operations to capture the north of Kunchikkulam area in Agampamoddai. Troops have observed that LTTE cadres are dragging the bodies of killed cadres and casualties scattered in the area following hours long fighting.

Meanwhile, troops of 584 Brigade destroyed terror strong point in general area Kalmadu following a fierce gun battle lasted for hours from 8.00 a.m yesterday. Troops confirmed that LTTE suffer heavy damages.

Troops of 59 Division operating in Andankulam, north of Andankulam and Thannimurippukulam areas had several confrontations with LTTE terrorists. Troops confirmed that LTTE suffered maxim damage during these clashes. Troops engaged in mine clearing operations in general area Andankulam have unearthed 91 anti-personnel mines from recently captured areas.

The Editorial Board of defence.lk has decided to temporary suspend the reporting of all casualty figures in relation to the ongoing counter terrorist operation in Wanni. This is in consideration of the continuing advance of the security forces there and the need for operational security, whereby such reportage may impede the successful accomplishment of the mission.
