From Colombo News Desk Leader
of the Janatha Party in India Dr. Subramaniam Swamy says
the recently held meeting in Tamil Nadu was not an all party
conference. The meeting was not attended by the main opposition
ADMK led by Mrs. Jayalalitha Jayaram and the Janatha Party.
Only pro-LTTE parties attended the meeting. In an interview
with media on Tuesday Dr. Swami said as a result decisions
taken at the meeting are not acknowledged by all. He said
the decision on resignations was a unilateral decision of
the party led by Chief Minister Mr. Karunanidi and not agreed
upon by the Congress Party or the Communist Party. Dr. Swami
pointed out that leading actors and actresses did not take
party in the protest held recently by South Asian cinema
figures. He said no one in Tamil Nadu writes
pro-LTTE articles to newspapers. Newspapers such as New
Indian Express and The Hindu have revealed the true nature
of the LTTE.
Speaking
further Dr. Swami said the Sri Lankan government is committed
towards the rights of the Tamil people. He said the Tamil
Nadu people are quite aware that the LTTE is responsible
for the assassinations of many Tamil leaders in Sri Lanka.
These include A. Amirthalingam, Neelan Thiruchelvam and
Yogeshwaran. The leader of the Janatha Party said the party
under the leadership of Karunanidi is engaged in protests
to fulfil their personnel objectives and will not resign
from their positions.
Dr.
Swami is of the view that negotiations should not be conducted
with the LTTE who are a terrorist organisation. He said
persons who stand up for the LTTE will be rejected by the
people. He is confident that the Indian government will
support any legal framework of the Sri Lankan government
which guarantees the democratic rights of the Tamil people.
