LTTE pistol gang assassinated a Police Constable attached to the Chenkalady Police post in Batticaloa Thursday (16 October) evening, Police sources said.

Police Constable Jayaweera (43), a resident of Walakumbura, Alawwa, was killed on the spot by the LTTE pistol man while he was on duty in the area around 7.00 pm. He was a father of one.

PC Jayaweeera, enlisted to the Police Department in 1986 and has reported to the Batticaloa Police division in April 2007.

LTTE terrorists of pistol gang infiltrated into Batticaloa area carrying out such assassinations to disrupt the normalcy in the area.

The Eraur Police are conducting investigations.
