The
JVP has demanded the government not to reverse the operations
carried out against separatist terrorism by giving into
pressure from leaders of political parties in Tamil Nadu
who are bent on winning the forthcoming state elections
by posing to be representing the Tamil community in Sri
Lanka and those Delhi leaders who intervene to carry out
their economic and political expansionist policies.
The
communiqué issued by the political Bureau of the
JVP states President Mahinda Rajapakse and the government
of Sri Lanka should comprehend the true nature of the
Indian intervention and see that the mandate given by
the masses at the presidential election of 2005 is not
abused.
The
communiqué further states: "It has been reported
that Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. Karunanidhi is carrying
out an exercise to pressurize Indian central government
to demand a halt to the operations being carried out by
Sri Lankan Security Forces against separatist terrorism.
Though Mr. Karunanidhi called an 'all party' summit on
14th October, 2008 to make his attempt successful, it
failed. Several strong political parties in Tamil Nadu
have not participated in the 'all party summit' convened
by Mr. Karunanidhi.
However,
Mr. Karunanidhi has stated that if the Indian Central
government fails to get the government of Sri Lanka to
agree for a ceasefire agreement the parties that participated
at the 'all party summit' would withdraw their decisive
support to maintain Manmohan Singh government.
Under
this condition the pressure already applied by the Indian
government on government of Sri Lanka and President Rajapakse
would be intensified. Emphasizing that President Mahinda
Rajapakse or the government of Sri Lanka has not been
able to withstand Indian pressure and protect sovereignty
and dignity of Sri Lanka we call upon the masses to rally
to demand that the President and the government protect
sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka.
The
Leaders in Tamil Nadu and Delhi talk about Tamil masses
in Sri Lanka for their own interests but not regarding
the interests and rights of the Tamil people in Sri Lanka.
Tamil Nadu leaders talk about Tamils in Sri Lanka to win
the forthcoming state elections. On the other hand, leaders
in Delhi talk about Tamils in Sri Lanka to carry out their
economic and political expansionist policies in this country.
We
emphasize that it is the leaders in Delhi who instigate
the leaders in Tamil Nadu to agitate against Sri Lanka.
We
emphasize that President Mahinda Rajapakse and the government
should comprehend the true situation. Also, we specially
emphasize that the mandate given by the masses at the
presidential election of 2005 should not be violated.
It
is essential that the President and the government act
in a responsible manner to protect civilians during operations
against terrorists and make available basic facilities
for those who arrive in cleared areas. Those in authority
should act in a responsible manner so that no incidents
are created, as had happened at several instances, to
give an excuse for any foreign interventions."
