At least 15 terrorists were killed including a senior sea tiger identified as Kadalmaran, and similar numbers reported injured following heavy attacks carried out by troops of the 57 Division targeting LTTE resistant positions, East of Akkarayankulama, Kilinochchi on Monday (Oct 13).

The fighting erupted since yesterday morning and lasted till 11p.m., Wanni military sources said. Among the dead two were identified as senior sea tigers including Kadalmaran, who was believed commanding the reinforcement elements of LTTE in the area.

According to military, a soldier has laid his life and 8 others reported wounded during the hours long confrontations.

Pitched fighting ensued between troops and LTTE later in the day, when terrorists launched counter attacks to stall the military advance. The LTTE attempts were put all-in vain as troops stepped intense assaults, neutralizing the counter attack, forcing the tigers to flee the area, military sources said.
