10.10.2008

The government has firmly rejected allegations made by the opposition and certain newspapers that the government did not facilitate to convey the remains of Major General Janaka Perera from Colombo to Anuradhapura.
Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa pointed out that political differences do not enter into the government’s responsibility to protect the people. Speaking at the cabinet press briefing in Colombo on Thursday the Minister said the UNP has made no request seeking police security for the location of the blast.
They had only requested police assistant for traffic arrangements. He said even though the government provided eight VIP security officers Janaka Perera had rejected them. The Minister also rejected allegations that the TMVP is connected to the assassination.
He said the party has entered the democratic path and is not a terrorist group.

In reply to a query raised by a journalist the Minister said the government will respect the court decision pertaining to former President Chandrika Kumaratunga. Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa says a programme is in place to restructure the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.
He said the present administration is not responsible for the financial crisis of SLBC which he said is the result of several long standing factors.
