Troops repulsed an LTTE offensive on forward defences north of Uyilankulam in Mannar, after defensive counter attacks today(06) at 5.45a.m, security sources said.

At least six terrorists were killed or seriously wounded in heavy military counter attacks, initial ground reports said. Troops opened heavy retaliatory fire, as LTTE elements mobilized north of Uyilankulam attempted to advance into Army forward defences, security sources said.

Meanwhile, ground reports confirm four terrorists killed and two wounded, when troops engaged heavy mortar and artillery fire at an identified LTTE location north west of Giant's Tank yesterday(05) morning. Security forces launched artillery and heavy gun fire on information obtained through intercepted enemy communications, sources said.

According to ground sources, LTTE were mounting heavy guns in the area to be used as launching pads in fresh offensives against security forces.
