Navy
recovers LTTE leader Nishanthan's body
The
body of LTTE leader Nishanthan killed in a fierce sea battle on
27th September was recovered by the Navy from the seas off Kuchchaweli
last Sunday (29th September).
The
body which had a LTTE uniform was handed over to the Kuchchaweli
police by the Navy. Investigations by the Police revealed that
the deceased was 32 year old self styled 'Lieutenant Colonel Nishanthan'.
Nishanthan
was killed in a fierce gun battle that erupted off the sea of
Pulmudai on 27th September 2007 when the Navy's Fast Attack Craft
(FACs) successfully foiled an LTTE attempt to evacuate trapped
Tiger cadres in Peraru and Kumburuppiddi jungles.
Sailors
intercepted and engaged around 20 LTTE craft launched from Nayaru
destroying three of them completely. Intercepted LTTE communication
revealed that the Naval attack had inflicted heavy casualties
to the enemy. 18 Sea Tiger cadres were killed including the self
proclaimed LTTE leader 'Lieutenant Colonel Nishanthan'.
