According to ground sources, troops engaged effective counter attacks at an LTTE advance in Wanni defence lines north of Uyilankulam in Mannar, at 11 a.m. Heavy artillery were pounded at advancing terrorists, from military defence positions forcing them to flee, said security sources. LTTE elements are believed to sustain scores of casualties, in effective retaliatory attacks by troops, security sources added.

Information obtained through intercepted enemy communication revealed losses of eight terrorists while many LTTE casualties were also reported, area military sources said.

Meanwhile, troops destroyed three LTTE bunkers killing one terrorist and wounding many others in similar counter attacks, at forward defences along Nagarkovil, Jaffna today morning, security sources said.
