Nedunkerni area was once a Command hub during the Eelam war I, II and III. It was the centre of command and control of Welioya region. Specially for 1-4 base and the surrounded satellite camps in Welioya Jungle. But, at the moment strategic Nedunkerni losing its initiative once it was with the LTTE. Therefore, the total Nedunkerni theatre of operations including South of Mankulam, South West of Kumulamunai, West of Gajabapura and North of Padaviya and Omanthei has become untenable and lost the grip of LTTE.

59 Division captured the strategic coastal hamlet Komalamunai in the East, while Task Force III launched the attrition towards east from Mankulam and made the total area untenable with the move. At present, this area is under the heavy influence of troops of the Army and the defensive and offensive capability of terrorists in the area contained almost to the zero.

Once the proud garison of LTTE, terrorists who were willing to serve in the area are now refusing to serve in the death trap of Nedunkerni bay due to its tactical positionning of troops. It is evident that the total area is seiged and once Army cut off the exfitration route in between Mankulam to Kumulamunai the terrorist will have no other option other than using the cyanide capsule. This was a very different unauthox tactics used in the theatre to liberate innocent people from the clutches of deadly terrorists. Within a few weeks this will fall in to the category of totally liberated area where all the civilians can enjoy respectful day today life.
