24.11.2008
The
JVP has announced that it has sacked 10 of its members,
who contested the general election in 2004 under the UPFA
and were elected to Parliament and another, who was appointed
to Parliament through the national list, for violating
party discipline.
The
General Secretary of the JVP has sent a letter dated 14th
of this month to the Secretary General of the UPFA requesting
him to remove the relevant Parliamentarians from the UPFA.
Making
an announcement, the JVP has stated that the relevant
Parliamentarians were found guilty of violating party
discipline and the Central Committee of the party had
decided to sack them from the party from 25.10.2008.
The
members who have been sacked from the JVP are Messrs.
Wimal Weerawansa MP, Premawansa Jayasinghe MP, Pathma
Udayashanthe MP, Samansiri Herath MP, Priyankara Weerakumara
Dissanayake MP, Deepal Gunasekera MP, Achala Suranga Jagoda
MP, Mohommed Mussammil MP, Jayanthe Samaraweera MP, Piyasiri
Wijenayake MP and Anjan Umma MP.
With
the announcement of sacking of these Parliamentarians
by the JVP from its membership a tense situation has arisen
within the UPFA. The senior leaders of the UPFA have split
up into two divisions - one faction stating the MPs sacked
by the JVP should be sacked from the UPFA as well and
those who are next in the UPFA list should be brought
to the Parliament while the other faction is of the view
that the sacked MPs from the JVP should be retained making
them MPs from the UPFA list.
