"What
is Mangala up to? Obviously a deflated man with
a deflated alliance, rejected by the public, consigned
to the dustbin, is trying to inflate the collapsing propaganda
machinery of the LTTE, revealed Minister Keheliya Rambukkawella,
Sri Lanka Government’s official Spokesman for Defence
and National Security.
Charges
are also leveled by the Minister against Mangala Smaraweera,
as he was trying to paint an erroneous picture that what
Sri Lankan soldiers are fighting to liberate the country
from the terrorists grip, as an unwinnable war. Furthermore
he was also accused of working on a private agenda with
a deflated alliance.
"Unfortunately,
he is trying to inculcate that this is a war which is
unwinnable, in the minds of the people who are one hundred
percent with the President, the Defence authorities and
with the valiant soldiers of this country," pointed
out, Spokesman for Defence and National Security.
Minister
Keheliya Rambukkawella, Governemnt spokesman told Asian
Tribune, that these are the very people who have been
already consigned to the dustbins, however they are working
with a private agenda, where already the Liberation Tigers
of Tamil Eelam has miserably failed.
Asian
Tribune asked Minister Keheliya Rambukkawella to comment
on the recent allegation by Mangala Samaraweera, Leader
of SLFP Mahajana Wing, who said, "This is an endless
war. Newspapers do not publish these things. You will
not be allowed to publish these either. I know that by
last Tuesday, 235 injured soldiers were brought to Colombo
National Hospital. It was reported that 85 were brought
to Kalubowila, 90 to Jayawardenepura and more than 300
to Military Hospital. Also, the bodies of more than 200
brave sons of this country were brought to Jayaratne Funeral
Directors. This government is preparing to sacrifice any
number of lives to hide all these and cover up its inabilities."
Minister
Keheliya Rambukkawella said, "Our forces are involved
in fighting against the most ruthless terrorist organization.
In a fight there has to be causalities on the winning
side, as well as on the losing side."
He
added, in May 1996, in the "Operation Liberation"
military campaign to free Vadamarachchy, Brigadier Denzil
Kobbekaduwa in his confidential report to Colombo said
that the causality figures were well over 15,000.
"However,"
he said, "Today we have endeavored to minimize the
causalities."
"I
cannot honestly understand and I want to put it down that
what Mangala Samaraweera is propagating is a meticulously
planned psychological war, in the absence of LTTE being
unable to penetrate the peoples’ minds and he is
trying to do that job for the LTTE, the Minister said.
The
Minister charged that Mangala Samaraweera, a deflated
person has an agenda with a deflated alliance to inculcate
in the minds of the general public that we have subjected
our armed forces to hazardous situations, irrespective
of victories.
"His
private agenda which is very cynical, not only the public
but even the forces - our valiant soldiers are quiet aware
of the opposition’s stance and they know also the
weaknesses and the strength of the opposition. They are
willing to fight it out for the country, its people, to
safeguard the sovereignty of the country and they have
taken up the challenge posed by the terrorist organization,
the Minister said.
When
Asian Tribune asked the Minister Keheliya Rambukkawella
to comment about causality figures dropped by Mangala
Samaraweera, he said the issue here is not the causality
figures. The hidden agenda here, what Managala Samaraweera
trying is to make credible, the anti-government propaganda
campaign undertaken by the Tamil Net and other sinister
and vicious LTTE media organizations. Other than that,
the dropping of causality figures has no bearings at all
except the anti-people propaganda with evil motive and
intent.
Minister
Keheliya Rambukkawella also pointed out that as a Member
of Parliament, Mangala Samaraweera is well aware that
Prime Minister always reveals the causality figures of
our soldiers when he presents the motion to renew the
emergency by beginning of every month.
To
confirm or deny those figures, we have to wait till the
beginning of next month, so that Prime Minister will present
the accurate figures in the parliament.
