Arjuna Ranatunga
was the guest of honour at a gala dinner at the residence
of David and Cathy Cruse on Saturday 24th November.
All the ex-Sri Lankan test cricketers In Melbourne were
there to meet this legend who captained Sri Lanka to their
one and only World Cup win many years ago.
Arjuna’s wisdom and expertise is still given freely
and with the frankness and authority he commanded on the
cricket field as captain. His brush with Hair has never
been forgotten and Murali remains ever grateful to his
captain for having stood by him in his hour of need.
The trustees of the Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation of Victoria
were there to meet Arjuna. He was as always grateful to
SLCFV for their support of Sri Lanka cricket since it’s
inception in 1985 at the request of Mr. Gamini Disanayake
– then President of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board.
Arjuna was guest of honour at a celebration at Water’s
Edge in August when the Gamini Dissanayake Cricket Foundation
retraced the path of Sri Lanka gaining test match status
twenty five years ago. Arjuna spoke of his admiration
and respect for Gamini who nurtured Sri Lanka cricket
in it’s formative years. David Cruse and Quintus
de Zylva were guests at the celebration at Water’s
Edge.
