Upaul Tharanga (112), Chamara
Kapugedera (141) and Thilina Kandamby (107 n.o.) scored
centuries as Sri Lanka Cricket President’s XI amassed
500 for five declared in their first innings in their first
three-day tour match against touring England, on day-two,
at CCC grounds yesterday.
After resuming from 218 for three, the hosts lost only two
wickets for 282 runs before rain stopped play after 70 overs
yesterday.
Tharanga, who is fighting for a place in the SL Test team,
added 20 runs to his overnight 92 before Kapugedera made
141 in 233 balls with 16 fours and three sixes while sharing
142 for the fifth wicket with Kandamby. The latter remained
not out on 107 in 169 balls, with eight fours and three
sixes, as England skipper Michael Vaughan used nine bowlers
in the innings.
Sidebottom, Hoggard, Broad, Swann and Panesar shared one
wicket apiece as Kaushal de Silva made his fifty (54) in
74 deliveries inclusive of nine fours. England’s key
bowler Steve Harmison bowled six overs for 48 without a
wicket.
