LTTE continues to take heavy beating at Wanni FDL
5 more terrorists either killed or wounded

The Security forces responding to LTTE infiltration attempts at Wanni forward Defence Line (FDL) confronted with LTTE terrorists at two separate incidents today (November 6), said the defence sources.

Troops engaged in clearing operations immediately ahead of own defence line in the general area South of Adappan skirmished with a group of LTTE terrorists around 5.40 this morning. At the initial contact ground troops beat off the terrorists using small arms and later engaged heavy weapons at their hideouts. Ground sources have confirmed at least 3-4 terrorists were either killed or seriously wounded in the incident. No casualties were reported to the own troops.

The second incident also took place in the same area, when troops attacked a terrorists' movement around 6.p.m. The terrorist took onto their heels as the troops engaged the enemy using small arms. Ground sources confirmed that two terrorists were either killed or seriously wounded in the incident. Soldiers suffered no casualties, sources further said.

Meanwhile, the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said, that four more LTTE cadres were killed on Monday afternoon (November 5) by troops manning the FDL at Vilathikulama. The clash was erupted when troops intercepted a group of LTTE infiltrators, sources added. One soldier suffered injuries and was admitted to General Hospital Vavuniya.

MCNS further said that three bodies of LTTE cadres found by SL Army after a clash at Kalmadu were taken to Vavuniya General Hospital around 4.20 last evening (November 5). The bodies, two female and one male were found by army soldiers following the clash on Sunday (November 4). MCNS said that arrangements have been already made to hand over the bodies to LTTE through ICRC.

Meanwhile, army has taken steps to re-open the entry/exit point at Omanthai this evening (November 6). The entry/exit point which is the main gateway to the terror dominated Wanni region was kept closed since last afternoon as LTTE terrorists had engaged it with heavy weapons. The point was opned for the civilian traffic at 3.p.m.

Separately, in the East, troops continuing in search operations uncovered more stocks of arms and ammo abandoned by LTTE in the Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Ampara areas yesterday (November 5)

MCNS said, Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel acting on a civilian information had uncovered one T-56 riffle with 470 ammunitions, one 40mm grenade launcher with four grenades, four hand held radio communication sets, one detonator and few military webbings in the Kannankuda area in Ampara last evening.

In the same evening (November 5) troops engaged in a search operation in the Palauththu area, Trincomalee, found one claymore mine weighing 5kg, one T-56 riffle with three magazines, and 90 ammunitions.

In Batticaloa, police personnel acting on a civilian tip-off found one T-56 weapon along with two hand grenades around 2.30 last afternoons.
