07 were injured, including 05 children today( November 26),
when LTTE terrorists shelled heavy artillery and mortars
at the 'Mallawarayan Kattaiadmapan', Roman Catholic school
at general area Pulleadi Irrakkam, around 1.30 p.m, in Mannar.
Two
boys, two girls and a teacher were among the seriously injured,
admitted to the general hospital at Murunkan, security sources
said. Meanwhile, Hospital sources at Mannar said that, another
two, a girl and a teacher were also admitted with serious
injuries following the tragic incident.
The
shelling at the Roman Catholic school comes following the
brutal killing of four villagers by the outfit today (26)
at Mahawilachchiya, defence sources said.
More
than 10 artillery shells exploded inside the school premises,
defences sources said.
These
indiscriminate attacks at civilian settlements comes as
terrorists were making efforts for November 27, 'Tiger day'
commemorations, despite major military setbacks to the outfit
in east , Wanni and Northern fronts, defence sources said.
Tension
prevails in the area and parents fear the latest LTTE attack,
most violent of its kind to have caused trauma and fear
psychosis among the children, defence sources said.
The
reverberation caused due to the LTTE shelling was heard
distances, ground sources said. Many including parents and
children met with minor injuries while rushing for safety
during the LTTE attack.
Security
forces took evasive steps to neutralize the terrorist threat
retaliating at identified LTTE artillery launching pads
saving over hundred lives and the Roman Catholic school,
security sources said.
