Navy Defends Mannar Island successfully; 17 LTTE cadres killed

Sri Lanka Navy sailors successfully crushed a cowardly LTTE attack at the Mannar Island this morning, said Navy spokesperson Commander D.K.P. Dasanayake to defence.lk.

LTTE terrorists in six boats launched a seaborne attack at the Pesalai Police post in Mannar around 8 a.m. today, November 23. The LTTE boats had come to the attack in guise of fishing boats, defence sources in Mannar revealed.

"Navy ground troops and sea units have simultaneously engaged the LTTE boats damaging one terror boat and inflicting heavy casualties to the terrorists", Navy spokesperson further said.

Monitoring of LTTE's radio transmissions have revealed that seventeen terrorists were killed in the incident. The terrorists were later beat a retreat towards Vidattaltivu, North of Mannar.

Commander Dasanayaka also said that there were no casualties to Navy in the incident.
