The Government of Brazil establishes diplomatic relations
once again with the Government of Sri Lanka after a lapse
of nearly 40 years.
The Government of Brazil had originally set up an embassy
in Sri Lanka in the early sixties, but it was closed in
1969. In recognition of the growing importance of Sri Lanka-
Brazil relations, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, on
the advice of the Minister of foreign Relations, Celso Amorim,
took the decision to reestablish its mission here.
The
new ambassador, Pedro Henrique Lopes Borio, is scheduled
to arrive in Sri Lanka at the end of January 2008.
