20 terrorists killed, 11 injured in skirmishes at Wanni and Northern defences

During the last 24 hours ending from 6.p.m today (21),at least 20 terrorists were killed and 11 others wounded, defence sources report. Intense clashes between troops and LTTE have occurred along the Wanni and Northern fronts inflicting heavy losses to LTTE security sources said.

Jaffna:
Five terrorists were killed by troops in separate incidents at the tensed Muhamalai defences today (November 21) security sources said. According to reports, troops averted LTTE attempts to breach the FDLs at Muhamalai at 8.a.m and 3.p.m consecutively.

During the confrontations no casualties were caused to own troops, security sources said.

Earlier, on Tuesday (20) evening security forces recovered an improvised claymore mine during a search operation conducted at general area Muhamalai.

Vavuniya:
Troops observing an LTTE ground movement yesterday (20) at 5.45p.m in general area Kallikkulam had engaged small arms fire and heavy mortar, security sources said. Later, troops citing intercepted LTTE communication said at least 01 terrorist was killed while 02 others were reported injured during the confrontation.

Similarly, intercepted LTTE communication has revealed that 02 terrorists were killed during clashes at general area north west of Mullikulam, on Tuesday 20th November. Meanwhile, security forces have removed 194 anti-personnel (AP) mines from general areas of Palamoddai and Vavuniya, military sources added.

Today (21) at 12.45p.m, troops in NAVATHKULAM, effectively neutralized an LTTE offensive advance killing 01terrorist while forcing other terrorist elements to flee the area. No damages were caused to own troops during the skirmishes, security sources said.

Earlier, on Wednesday (21) troops recovered 04 LTTE bodies along with 04 T-56 assault riffles following a pre-emptive strike at an LTTE bunker south of Mullikulam, defence sources reported.

Mannar:
Responding to LTTE offensive bids at the Wanni defences, security forces engaged heavy artillery attacks at general area Vilathikulam, yesterday evening and today morning, security sources said. According to military reports, artillery barrages pounded at an intense LTTE activity area.

Following effective military responses from troops, LTTE communication has revealed the loss of 07 terrorists while 5 others were also believed injured, security sources said.
