A
paper in circulation locally in the Negombo area ‘Meepura’
had revealed that the suspected doctor for the death of
Chamila has made similar advances on a patient a few months
ago and had been assaulted by her boy friend. But the couple
had not brought it to light due to embarrassment.
Director of the Negombo Hospital Board, Dr. Anton Tissera
speaking to the Government official news website said that
as no formal complaint had been made on that occasion no
action could be taken.
Also
in clarifying the recent media reports that highlighted
the use of 6th floor of the Negombo Hospital by the residing
doctors as quarters, Dr. Tissera, said that the UGC has
permitted the use of this floor free of charge by a law
of agreement.
According
to him 12 to 15 doctors reside here but said that in the
afternoons the floor is almost deserted. The suspected doctor’s
activities prior to Chamila’s death had been disclosed
by a woman janitor working there and a security person.
Answering
to our website Dr. Tissera said that Chamila Dissanaike
(23) had been admitted to ward number 5 of the Negombo Hospital
on 23rd October for a Surgery for a lump in her breast diagnosed
as fibroadinoma. She has been discharged following surgery
and asked to report in two weeks for a check up. The fatal
day was the 12th of November when she reported for her check
up but was to face the worst tragedy of a woman.
On
the day in question Chamila had attended the clinic in the
ward of Dr. Indika Sudarshan Balage of Maradankadawala who
is the suspect in the rape and killing of Chamila.
The
JMO report on Chamila’s death has been handed over
to the courts yesterday (19) which will pronounce the cause
of her death.
