Naval troops apprehended a consignment of cement while being
smuggled in to un-cleared areas, today (November 18), in
Pallemunai, Mannar at 4:30 a.m.
The
naval troops on patrol had detected a suspicious boat movement
in between Pallemunai and Kondampiddi. The wallams, each
approximately 23 feet in length, were loaded with 70 bags
of cement, each bag containing 50 kilograms.
LTTE,
for sometime now, has been desperately trying to smuggle
cement in to un-cleared areas in various guises, to put
up fortifications. The vigilant naval troops have been able
to foil their attempts on many occasions through the conduct
of coordinated searches, Naval sources said.
