Negombo Hospital sources disclosed that the intern doctor
taken in to custody in connection with the alleged rape
and murder of 22 year old FTZ worker was rushed to the Negombo
Hospital following an attempt by him to committee suicide
in the cell of the Negombo Prisions where he was remanded.
Negombo Prison officials quoted that he had attempted suicide
bid by strangling him self with his trouser belt.
The
doctor was taken in to custody on suspicion after the post
mortem revealed that Chamila, the victim had been rendered
unconscious and raped. Investigations were continuing to
establish whether she had been pushed to her death. Several
containers of Chloroform were also found in the doctors
quarters suspected to be connected to Chamila’s death.
The
Negombo Prisons officials said the doctor who was admitted
to the Negombo Hospital in a critical condition was to be
transferred to the National Hospital Colombo.
