Defensive operations continues causing heavy losses to LTTE- Wanni & Northern FDLs

Security forces continuing on counter terrorists operations in the Northern Province confronted with LTTE terrorists at Wanni and Northern fronts at several instances during last 24 hours. Reports received so far indicate that at least 27 terrorists were killed and many others were injured in the incidents that had taken place at Mannar, Vavuniya and Jaffna fronts.

Mannar Front
Troops conducting clearing operation immediately ahead of Mannar front have so far confronted with LTTE terrorists at five separate locations today (November 13), defence sources said.

In the general area North of Uylankulama, troops attacked and destroyed a terrorists' bunker around 5.a.m. Ground sources have confirmed one terrorist was killed and at least four others were injured in the incident. No harm was reported to own troops, sources further said.

Separately, troops intercepted a group of LTTE infiltrators in the North of Adampan area around 8.30.a.m. According to the ground sources, three terrorists were killed and another three were injured in the incident. No casualties to own troops, sources said.

Troops manning the Forward Defence Line (FDL) in the North of Uylankulma area observed and engaged small arms fire at a group of LTTE infiltrators around 9.30.a.m. Ground sources said three terrorists were gunned down at the incident.

Also, in Northwest of Adampan area troops gunned down two more LTTE cadres around 12.45, this afternoon (November 13). Sources said that troops opened fire at the terrorist as they were moving towards the security forces FDL.

At Sirinavakulama, troops claimed at least two terrorists were killed when soldiers opened fire at a group of LTTE cadres attempting to breach the FDL around 4 this morning (November 13). During subsequent search, troops found two bodies of LTTE cadres along with two T-56 assault riffles, map, a compass and dog tags, the sources said. According to reports, no damages were caused to own forces.

Vavuniya Front
Meanwhile, in the Vavuniya front troops engaged small arms and machine gun fire at a terrorists' hideout in the Umayaratuvarankulama area around 1.50, last afternoon (November 12). Ground troops have confirmed that four terrorists were killed in this incident. Terrorists also retaliated with mortar fire causing injuries to one soldier. The injured soldier has been admitted to General Hospital Anuradhapura.

At Navtkulama troops manning the FDL gunned down two more LTTE terrorists around 12.45.p.m on yesterday (November 12). Sources said, that troops opened fire after having observed the terrorists trying to infiltrate own FDL.

Meanwhile on the same day (November 12) , troops engaged in mine clearing operations in the Vavuniya front removed 79 anti personnel mines emplaced by LTTE from the Kallikkulam, Thampanai, and Periyathampanai area. A claymore mine weighing 2.5kg was also found during the clearing operations in the Periyathampanai area.

Jaffna Front
In the Jaffna front troops continued their pre-emptive strikes at terrorists' locations in the Muhamalai area yesterday and today. According to the reports at least 10 terrorists were killed in these incidents.

Three terrorists were killed when troops manning forward defences at Muhamalai today (November 13) responded to an LTTE attack early morning. According to military sources, LTTE elements were forced to retreat in the face of heavy resistance from troops. Meanwhile, ground troops confirmed that two LTTE bunkers were destroyed during the counter attack.

Separately, the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said Sri Lanka army soldiers overran the first bunker line of LTTE at Muhamalai and destroyed three bunkers last morning (November, 12) .Quoting the ground sources the MCNS further said that five LTTE cadres were killed in this incident.

The MCNS said troops advancing from own defence line had launched a surprise attack at the terror bunker line around 5.a.m. The soldiers had maintained domination in the area for about one hour and returned to own defence line, sources added. One soldier sustained injuries and admitted to Military Hospital Palay. Intercepted radio transmission of LTTE has revealed that an LTTE leader known as Kadir Neelawn was also killed in the incident.

Elsewhere, troops gunned down two more LTTE cadres at two separate incidents occurred at Muhamalai and Nagarkovil on the same day evening (November 12).According to the sources soldiers having observed terrorists infiltrators had opened fire at one at Muhamalai and the other at Nagarkovil around 11.30.a.m.

Defensive operations are continuing.
